Who in the Academy is best able to help me/my son?

Navigating the various roles and personnel at Telos Academy can be challenging. This resource will help you determine who is best able to assist you with various aspects of the educational experience at Telos. Review the various roles and functions below to determine who best to contact regarding your individual need. 

As Telos employees change over time, we will focus on the responsibilities each position with the Academy focuses on rather than the people who current serve in that position. 

Academic Director
The academic director oversees and administers all students and personnel within the academy, as well as all academic processes. Contact the Academic Director directly for support with:
  • Individual student class schedules
  • Questions regarding course offerings and individualized tutoring
  • Telos Academy policies and procedures
  • Meetings with educational consultants and school districts that request more information of the academic services offered by the Academy
  • ​Coordinating college entrance exams 
  • Telos Academy personnel

School Counselor
School counselors are responsible for tracking the students overall credit achievement and developing academic and graduation plans for all all juniors and seniors. Contact a Counselor for assistance with:
  • Individual student class schedules (including coordinating Independent Study Courses)
  • Academic transcripts and interpreting credit acquisition for individual students
  • Direction on how to access the PowerSchool parent portal
  • Reaching out to past academic placements to obtain school records and obtaining records from past Telos academic quarters

Special Education Coordinator
At Telos, many of the students have suspected or diagnosed learning disabilities. Though all staff are trained in best practice instructional strategies, the Special Education Coordinator is primarily responsible for ensuring compliance of active student IEPs and 504 plans. Reach out to the Special Ed. Coordinator for help regarding:
  • Goals/objectives related to IEP's, 504 Plans, and other legally required services
  • Information regarding FAPE
  • Special Education pull-out services (when applicable)

Classroom Teachers
Teachers provide the daily instruction in the Academy. They spend more time with the students than any other academic staff and provide a key role in their development. Each teacher designs their class courses using Utah state approved curriculum standards combined with Telos best instructional practices. Contact your son's classroom teacher for more insights about:
  • Course curriculum, activities and objectives
  • Student manner and engagement in their classroom
  • Explanations of grading policies and assignment procedures 

Academic Advisers
Many students require extra support and orientation to the resources available to them at Telos Academy. Advisers oversee the observation and reporting process for each student in the Academy. They represent the student's academic needs in treatment team and help coordinate with primary therapists about the capability, manner, and progress of each student. They are available to speak more to:
  • Overall teacher observations and assessments (ADHD, Cognitive Processing, Mood, etc.) in the classroom
  • Student response and engagement in the standard Telos academic interventions
  • Progress on your son's academic goals in their Master Tx Plan
  • Recommended accommodations and interventions for future academic placements
